The completion of Beasley Place

Since February of 2009, HFHWC has been working diligently to construct 14 homes in an area of Franklin called Beasley Place.  This area was once owned by W.J. Beasley who constructed “shotgun” houses to provide residences for his sawmill employees.  This land was most recently owned by Beasley’s granddaughters Carol Martin and Elizabeth Rich who asked HFHWC to purchase the property.  The houses were removed in the 1980’s and individuals then rented plots for their mobile homes.  As HFHWC developed the property, the mobile homes were removed and many of the owners have qualified for Habitat homes in Franklin.  Each Habitat home is ENERGY STAR and N.A.H.B. Green Building Program certified.  Greater emphasis was placed on connecting the look of Beasley Place with that of the city of Franklin and therefore each home has a craftsman style look.  Rain gardens were  also introduced to absorb storm water runoff.  By mid June the homes will be completed and streetscape additions including trees and sidewalks will follow.  Be on the lookout for a celebration to commemorate the completion of this beautiful area in Franklin.

Do you love to golf?

For almost a decade, the Habitee Golf Event has been an integral part of the fund-raising initiatives of HFHWC.  Each golfer has a goal of raising $1,250 to participate in the event.  Each year, 80-100 golfers take part in this event by raising the $1,250  and more!  This year’s event will be held at The Governor’s Club on August 30.

In 2009, the event set an all time record with gross revenues of over $115,000!  This was a tremendous success in spite of the challenging economic climate at that time.  Eighty-eight golfers brought in funds from over 580 willing contributors.  The goal for this year is to reach the $120,000 level.
