Frequently Asked Questions
How many people does it take to construct a house?
It generally takes a minimum of 20 volunteers working each day of construction. HFHWC builds for four weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We ask that sponsors provide 15 to 20 volunteers for each work day. This does not include professional sub-contractors.
What assistance does Habitat for Humanity provide the sponsor in constructing a home?
Habitat for Humanity orders all materials and handles all inspections and subcontractors. We are also at the construction site to coordinate the day's activities. Our Construction Manager plans the build and oversees the preparation work for the build site and all construction work. A representative from our affiliate will walk with you through all aspects of the build. We also submit press releases and process checks.
How much does it cost to sponsor a home?
$60,000, based on current costs of building a Habitat house here in Williamson County. This amount can be reduced if the sponsor solicits and receives in-kind contributions of building materials and/or services. This figure does not include the cost of land, which is paid by HFHWC.
Can an organization co-sponsor a home if it does not have enough labor or funds to construct a home alone?
Yes! Many of our homes are built by people or organizations working together in this capacity. The $60,000 cost can be divided among a number of co-sponsors.
Why should my organization sponsor a home?
Many people are living in substandard right here in our community. As you give, so shall you receive. Not only will you make a tangible, visible contribution to affordable housing in Williamson County, the members of your organization will work side by side with the partner family and with HFHWC. This life-giving partnership is a wonderful way to build unity among employees/members and to make a difference right here at home.
