Driving to build!
Habitee Golf Tournament
Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County (HFHWC) hosts an annual golf challenge at The Governors Club of Tennessee called the “HABITEE.” The HABITEE provides an opportunity for businesses, churches, and individuals to join together to support HFHWC's mission to create partnerships to build affordable homes, develop stronger communities, and provide life-changing opportunities for hard-working families.
Sixty-four golfers attended this year's Habitee on October 14, 2013. Each team in the competition pledged to fundraise toward the event’s $100,000 goal, while educating the community about Habitat’s mission. While the event did not reach its lofty financial objective, this year’s Challenge was supported by 68 corporate sponsors and raised $54,000.Perfect weather and blue skies were on tap for the day’s festivities. Golfers were welcomed to the Governors Club with breakfast catered by The Cool Café and while waiting to tee off, enjoyed perusing a silent auction of specialty items from the Titans, Predators, and local golf shops.
The event opened with a welcome from Executive Director Becket Moore and a prayer from Board President Brian Smith. Next, a player's name was drawn for the putting contest and a chance at winning $5000 ($2500 for the player and $2500 for Habitat). Golfer Lynn Craig’s name was chosen, and he came very close to sinking his putt. After some notes on the course, the participants drove off to their respective holes, armed with goodie bags and plenty of water.
At the end of the day, players returned to the club house for an early dinner donated by the Men of Saint Paul’s food truck. Over hamburgers and Italian sausage, they shared stories of long drives and close putts. The event culminated with prizes for the winners of several skill competitions and for the best scoring teams.
Habitat Director of Family Services Wayne Weaver’s team received “The Most Honest Team” award. “My teammates and I are not avid golfers, but we had a wonderful time today. It was a treat to play this beautiful course, but today was all about coming together with sponsors and individuals to support Habitat Williamson. I am already working on my swing for next year!”
Our thanks again to all the volunteers, sponsors, and players who made this event so enjoyable! Special thanks to our golf coaches Anne and Ted Bleymaier for their guidance and ongoing commitment to Habitat.
