Spotlight On

Every quarter we put one of our hardworking volunteers in the spotlight.  Read their story below.

And there are others.  Read about Matt Schrimpf, a 2004 Centennial High School grad, who participated in the 2006 annual Habitat Bicycle Challenge ... cycling all the way from Ridgefield, CT to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco!

Then there's Leah Welbourn, a special volunteer from Brentwood, TN who was part of the "Bike and Build" program the summer of 2005.

Glenn Schwartz

Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County depends on volunteers like Glenn Schwartz. After Glenn retired from General Motors, he began looking for new ways to spend his time, and
found Habitat a perfect fit. Volunteering as a team leader and regular construction volunteer combines Glenn’s love of building with his desire to help others. Glenn began volunteering
with Habitat in the fall of 2005 and quickly took on the responsibility of being a team leader on Habitat builds. Glenn uses his experience and expertise to guide groups of volunteers on the construction site, helping them do everything from put up roof trusses to install windows and siding correctly. Glenn also often volunteers on builds during the week doing everything from helping install the flooring trusses to building the back porch.

Glenn also uses his time and talents to help Habitat make the best use of its funds. Over the past several months, Glenn has worked with Habitat’s construction manager, Gregg Elliott, to breakdown and analyze all aspects of recent house costs and complete a materials cost analysis. The goal is to identify and partner with local business and corporations that might offer reduced rates or donations of building materials.

Glenn retired as Director of Warehousing and Distribution from General Motors. He
and his wife Kathy have a son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter in Brighton, Michigan.
